Are you dirty?

I slept in this morning.  My hotel room was dark and cozy, my shower warm and invigorating.  It was time to get dressed and head home.  I retrieved my undergarments from the dresser, put them on and finished dressing.  When I pulled out my luggage, what did I find?  My clean underwear neatly rolled lay sitting in the bottom of my overnight bag which meant I was wearing day old, dirty underwear.  Why change? Who would know?  I’m just driving home alone.  No one would see my dirty self.

Colossians 3:1-10
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your[ life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
I may have heard by Mom’s voice about being in an accident with filthy under clothes.
It took less than three minutes to change.  Why be obstinate about taking off dirty clothes?  We are the same way when led by the Spirit to take off dirty thoughts, attitudes and behaviors.  Why ignore the urge to put on a new life?  It does not take much on our part since Jesus Christ has already done the hard work of sacrificing Himself on a cross so that we might be clean.  Take off your old ways and let Him redress you because God knows we are all dirty.

  1. Amen. At this moment I'm ready to throw in the towel. But God and His grace have given me peace and is gradually changing my heart.
