Danger, No U-turn
A 22 year old man was riding his motorcycle on West
Loop 1604 on Thursday. As he approached
the intersection at Wiseman Road, a Ford pickup was attempting a wide U-turn onto
Loop 1604. The motorcyclist collided
with the front end of the truck and was sent flying through the air, hitting a
highway sign. The impact severed both
his legs. Illegal U-turns can result in
dire consequences, causing collateral damage to innocent victims. The
ramifications of making an unapproved U-turn are life changing for everyone
involved.
Genesis 19:15-17, 26
15 When
morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up, take your wife and your two
daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.” 16 But
he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the
compassion of the Lord was upon him; and they brought
him out, and put him outside the city. 17 When they
had brought them outside, one said, “Escape for your life! Do not
look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape
to the mountains, or you will be swept away.” 26 But his
wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
Angels had been dispatched to destroy the cities of
Sodom and Gomorrah. A way of escape had
been provided for Lot and his family.
Despite the angels’ urging to leave immediately, Lot lingered. By the
mercy of God, the angles took the family by the hand and carried them away to
safety. How many times has God shown
mercy toward us by removing us from untoward situations? God graces us with new lives, new attitudes
and new ways. Why then, look back at
that old way of living. He took us by
the hand and pulled us away from destructive influences and devilish people. Why would you want to go back? Lot’s wife disobeyed the command to not look
behind. A U-turn at this juncture would
be fatal. Disregarding a highway sign
can result in the destruction of the body, disobeying God’s command can be
fatal to both body and soul. U-turns are
dangerous.
