Buckle-up!

Do you buckle-up for every car trip?  You should.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that seat belts reduce serious crash related injuries and deaths by about half.  Adult seat belt use is the most effective way to save lives and reduce injuries in crashes, yet millions of adults do not wear their seat belts on every trip.  Who knows which trip will result in a major motor vehicle accident?  Primary enforcement seat belt laws allow police officers to pull us over and issue a traffic violation for failure to wear a seatbelt.  The overarching purpose is not to limit a pleasurable driving experience but to save lives. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is dedicated to ensuring the driving public arrives to their intended destination safely.
Deuteronomy 6:20-24

20 “When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; 22 and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. 23 Then He brought us out from there that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He swore to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day.

God commands us to buckle up each day.  We are to put on His statutes, testimonies and judgments sort of like a seatbelt.   He is able to bring us through the trials and tribulations lurking on life’s highway that is fraught with danger just as He delivered the Jews from Egypt to the Promised Land.  His laws are not burdensome or a kill-joy but a way of restraining us from evil.  We remain inside His realm of protection instead of thrown outside the arc of safety.   Injury and untimely death are less likely when we strive to keep his commands.  His desire is that we be preserved alive until we reach our predetermined destination, so buckle-up daily.  The gamble is not worth the risk.
