Fall in Love with Jesus




A Facebook post from my oldest son reads “It took me 23 years to fully understand that Jesus is the Best love to have.  There’s no greater love than His.”  We love a variety of people and things in this world.  Many of us have invested an inordinate amount of time loving the unlovable or that which is unhealthy or unproductive.  Loving anything or anyone more than the Lord, our God is not advantageous nor is it conducive to a well-lived life.  God‘s desire is that we fall in love with Him first.  To comprehend this truth at a young age is life changing. 
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Yes, we should give of ourselves to others.  We should give our best to our loved ones, our brethren and the community but the love that encompasses all our heart, soul and strength goes first to God.  It’s a process over time of denying self and choosing to serve God.  Developing an intimate relationship with God requires a commitment to prayer and study which produces a love that deepens as we discover who God is and how much He cares for us.  Love God with all your heart.  It will be the best thing you’ve ever done.

The Serenity Prayer

I had never seen this poem in its entirety until this weekend.  It was recited by memory by one of the attendees at a conference.  All this time I had assumed this poem spoke of wisdom and the peace in knowing what should concern me and what should not.  When anxiety would overshadow me, well-meaning friends would recite the first two verses to remind me about the things I could not change so stop worrying.  There is a nod to serenity and wisdom in the poem but most importantly, it’s about contentment. Philippians 4:11-13 11  Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:  12  I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.  13  I can do all things through Christ [ a ]  who strengthens me. Live one day at a time, one moment at a time and accept what life brings.  To do this, we must entrust all things to God.  H

Are you dirty?

I slept in this morning.   My hotel room was dark and cozy, my shower warm and invigorating.   It was time to get dressed and head home.   I retrieved my undergarments from the dresser, put them on and finished dressing.   When I pulled out my luggage, what did I find?   My clean underwear neatly rolled lay sitting in the bottom of my overnight bag which meant I was wearing day old, dirty underwear.   Why change? Who would know?   I’m just driving home alone.   No one would see my dirty self.
